Install PDF Link Fix

PDF Link Fix is Mac-only and requires PowerPoint 2016 or newer, and macOS newer than El Capitan. Installing has two parts: running the installer, then manually loading the add-in into PowerPoint.

  1. Go to the PDF Link Fix download page.
  2. Find the latest version and click Download the PDF Link Fix installer.
  3. Once downloaded, double-click the .pkg file to start the PDF Link Fix installer.
  4. Click Next, then Finish to complete the installation.
  1. Open Finder and go to your Documents folder.
  2. You should see two new folders: PowerPoint Add-ins and PDF Files.
  3. If they’re not visible, try rebooting, or right-click the Finder icon, choose Go to folder…, and type ~/Documents/PowerPoint Add-Ins/ (note the hyphen in Add-Ins).

PDF Link Fix does not load automatically after the installer finishes. You have to add it manually, but only once.

  1. Open PowerPoint.
  2. Go to Tools → PowerPoint Add-ins.
  3. Click the + button.
  4. Go to your Documents folder → PowerPoint Add-ins (or use Recent → Add-ins).
  5. Choose the PDFLinkFix.ppam file.
  6. If a security warning appears, click Enable Macros so the add-in can run.

You should now see a new Add-ins tab in PowerPoint with the PDF Link Fix buttons.

  1. In PowerPoint, click the PDF Link Fix (Add-ins) tab.
  2. Click Preferences → License Setting.
  3. Enter your license, found in your downloads folder (license file) or your purchase confirmation email.

On Apple Silicon (M1 and later) Macs, PowerPoint can crash when creating a PDF. First make sure PowerPoint is up to date (Help → Check for updates). If it still crashes:

  1. Close PowerPoint.
  2. In Finder, go to Applications and select (don’t launch) the PowerPoint app.
  3. Choose File → Get Info.
  4. Under General, check Open using Rosetta.

If that doesn’t help, remove PDF Link Fix via Tools → Add-ins, make sure PowerPoint is up to date, delete the ~/Documents/PowerPoint Add-ins folder, re-download the installer from the download page, run it, and repeat the setup above.

Later updates only need you to re-run the installer. You don’t need to re-add PDFLinkFix.ppam to PowerPoint again. See updating an add-in for the general process.
