I Spy Creator FAQ & fixes

Common questions about using I Spy Creator.

Answer-key image size follows your page and layout settings. Open the page settings and adjust items per row. Fewer items per row gives each image more room. Reduce spacing too if the grid still feels cramped. See getting started for the layout steps.

Counts or images aren’t showing the variation I expect

Section titled “Counts or images aren’t showing the variation I expect”

Try your puzzle again. Since this is a web app, you are already using the latest version, which includes recent fixes for occurrence counts and placement.

Do I need PowerPoint or Microsoft Office to use I Spy Creator?

Section titled “Do I need PowerPoint or Microsoft Office to use I Spy Creator?”

No. It’s a browser-based web app, not a PowerPoint add-in. You design the puzzle in-browser, enter your license key on the site, then export the result to PowerPoint, Canva, or Google Slides for further customization. Nothing installs into PowerPoint. It also works fine if you only have LibreOffice Impress, since export is just a standard .pptx file.

PowerPoint goes into “Not Responding” or my exported file is huge

Section titled “PowerPoint goes into “Not Responding” or my exported file is huge”

This was caused by oversized source images bloating the exported file. The app now automatically reduces exported file size to fix it. If you still see huge files or freezes, you’re likely on an older cached version of the app. Reload the page and re-export.

Can I sell puzzles I make with I Spy Creator?

Section titled “Can I sell puzzles I make with I Spy Creator?”

Yes. Your license covers commercial use, so puzzles you make with it can be sold in your own Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT) products.

No. I Spy Creator is a web app. Open ispy.bearwoodlabs.com and you always get the current version. There’s no .ppam file, no unblocking, and no Windows- or Mac-specific installer.
