Crossword Creator FAQ & fixes

The final crossword you download is a PowerPoint file with normal shapes and textboxes. Each shape and textbox can be changed to whichever font and color you prefer.

You can add as many hints and answers as you want. The crossword creator will keep creating layouts to fit all the words in.

Yes. Once you buy Crossword Creator, you can create unlimited crosswords and sell them for commercial use. See commercial use licensing for details.

Do these crosswords work in Keynote or Google Slides?

Section titled “Do these crosswords work in Keynote or Google Slides?”

Yes. Even though they’re downloaded as .pptx files, you can open them in Google Slides or Keynote with no problem.

No. Crossword Creator runs entirely in your browser, and the exported .pptx file opens in PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides.

All crosswords are stored in your browser, not on our servers. If you switch computers or browsers, your crosswords won’t automatically appear there.

Short words need more intersection opportunities, not fewer. Removing longer words can actually make it harder for a 3-letter word to fit. Try adding a few more words, or swapping a short word for a slightly longer one with more common letters.

This happens automatically when a puzzle has many long words. Try cycling through the alternate auto-layouts, resizing the grouped grid after export to PowerPoint, or splitting a large word list into two smaller puzzles.

Section titled “I can’t find my commercial license number.”

If you bought through Gumroad, check your Gumroad library. If you bought through Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT), the key is in a license.txt file inside your TPT download. See finding your license for more.

Section titled “Can I use non-English or accented characters?”

Yes. The word list accepts any Unicode text, including accented characters. On Windows, you can type accents with Alt-codes or by switching to the US International keyboard layout in your system settings.

Section titled “Can I use picture clues instead of written clues?”

Picture clues aren’t built in, but you can add clue images manually onto the exported PowerPoint slide.
